Levi’s® Go Forth 2011 / Charles Bukowski -The Laughing Heart

Yes, the images are nice. The music is nice. And the text is great. Such the shame Levi’s omits to quote the author. I’m not sure if Charles Bukowski would have approved to his integration into a commercial…?

Chanson d’automne - Paul VERLAINE

Les sanglots longs
Des violons
De l’automne
Blessent mon coeur
D’une langueur
Monotone.
Tout suffocant
Et blême, quand
Sonne l’heure,
Je me souviens
Des jours anciens
Et je pleure,
Et je m’en vais
Au vent mauvais
Qui m’emporte
Deçà, delà
Pareil à la
Feuille morte.

Shortly before the D-Day landings of June 6, 1944, Radio Londres broadcast the first stanza of Paul Verlaine’s poem “Chanson d’automne” to let the resistance know that Operation Overlord would begin within 24 hours. I guess the weather was pretty much the same than today…

Caminante, son tus huellas
el camino y nada más;
Caminante, no hay camino,
se hace camino al andar.
Al andar se hace el camino,
y al volver la vista atrás
se ve la senda que nunca
se ha de volver a pisar.
Caminante no hay camino
sino estelas en la mar.

Antonio Machado - Campos de Castilla (1912)

(Walker, your footsteps are the road, and nothing more. Walker, there is no road, the road is made by walking. Walking you make the road, and turning to look behind you see the path you never again will step upon. Walker, there is no road, only foam trails on the sea.)
